Adapt11CAN was designed
to be used in one of two modes-- memory-mapped or SPI. When
used with Adapt11 in expanded mode, it can be operated in memory-mapped
mode, interfacing directly with the multiplexed address/data bus of the
68HC11 via a backplane. When used with any other MCU module (ie.
Adapt11C24DX, Adapt11ET24FX, Adapt12 series, MicroCore-11, or Microstamp11),
it must be used in SPI mode. In this mode, the extra pins become
I/O ports, therefore it cannot be used in a backplane, since the I/O ports
of the CAN chip will conflict with the I/O ports of the MCU. Instead
of using a backplane, the SPI pins of the module must be wired to the corresponding
SPI pins of the host MCU module.
